The team at The Olde Farm is committed to teaching future turfgrass managers the practical tools, professional habits and technical skills needed to succeed.
Interns become active members of the golf course maintenance operation and gain direct experience managing cool-season turfgrass in Southwest Virginia’s transition-zone environment.
The program is designed to help students return to the classroom with greater knowledge and enter the field with a broad, practical skill set that distinguishes them from other candidates.
Hands-On Education
Learn the complete operation
Interns participate in the daily maintenance, preparation and continued improvement of the golf course.
The experience includes exposure to agronomy, equipment, construction, irrigation, renovation work, course preparation and the teamwork required to produce exceptional playing conditions.
Walk mowing, rolling, aerification, topdressing, tamping and putting-surface preparation.
Participate in bunker redesign, tee expansion, green renovation and construction projects.
Learn how turf health, environmental conditions and member expectations guide agronomic decisions.
Understand the planning and attention to detail required to prepare the property for play.

The Golf Courses
Learn on a nationally recognized property
Originally prime farmland in Southwest Virginia, The Olde Farm was transformed into a premier golf destination through the vision of acclaimed architect Bobby Weed.
The championship course opened for member play in 2000 and stretches 7,119 yards from the championship tees. It also includes a distinctive 19th hole.
The full cool-season playing experience features L-93 bentgrass surfaces complemented by Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue roughs.
The nine-hole Orchard Course was designed by Bobby Weed in 2013. It may be played in traditional order or through a flexible cross-country routing.
